Soft Landscaping, Planting, Gravel, and Mulching
Here at Utopia we offer “soft landscaping”.
So what is Soft Landscaping?
Soft Landscaping is the process of elemental design without construction. The elements include trees, shrubs, and flowers, as well as container gardens, potted plants, and hanging baskets. Changing the soft elements of the landscape can be an easy way to change the entire look of the outside of the home, especially when annual and perennial flowers are planted in the garden and flower beds.
When do we usually do soft landscaping?
Landscaping jobs are generally done in the winter when garden maintenance tends to be quieter. Adding gravel to your driveway, bark to your flower beds and mulch to your beds or borders, reduces weeds, adds nutrients to the soil and improves water retention.
Careful planning should be considered when landscaping as this will form the basis of your garden and cannot be changed easily! That’s why we at Utopia can create a plan to ensure that your garden fulfils its maximum potential!
Other components of your landscape can be easily changed as necessary.
Purple and yellow dahlias can be replaced with a bed of red, white, and blue garden verbenas. Low-lying forget-me-nots can be replaced with tall, slender sunflowers or creeping zinnias with snapdragons.
Hanging baskets can be constructed to reflect the season of the year – bedding plants for the summer and winter flowering plants for the winter!
Vines that can be trained to grow around gazebos or trellis.
The finished product!
Once the main structure of the garden is in place, soft landscaping presents the creative gardener with a playground of endless possibilities. From changing colours to adding ornamental grasses, soft landscaping is much easier to change than the concrete, structural elements that are created in hard landscaping.
